Take Up Space 2020

In March 2020, we marked International Women’s Day with a five-day celebration of community, collaboration and connection in Folkestone. We brought together brilliant speakers, artists, activists and makers from across the world. Highlights included banging beats from Big Joanie; spitting rhymes with Shay D; spoken word queen, Vanessa Kisuule; and Amy Bell, blending dance, text, and animation with a live digital soundscape.

Emerging from previous International Women’s Day celebrations in Folkestone, the Take Up Space twelve-day festival was our boldest and most ambitious yet.

There were poetry, performances, film, dance, thought-provoking discussions plus a whole lot more. People connected and collaborated by taking part in our diverse workshops, events and exhibitions, pop-up markets, craftivism, and amazing vegan food – five spectacular days of women supporting women, brought together to connect, collaborate, gain strength and support each other to tackle patriarchy and to Take Up Space!
